Many people who are tired of looking at their sagging facial skin begin to consider cosmetic procedures to help them look younger. 

While some may need to undergo facelift surgery, others may be able to get away with a less invasive procedure. 

Smartlifting™ uses laser (Smartlipo®) or ultrasound (VASERlipo®) technology to supplement traditional liposuction to remove excess fat from the neck while also tightening the skin of the face and neck.

How Does Smartlifting™ Work?

Laser liposuction with Smartlipo® uses light energy to liquefy fat deposits before they are gently suctioned out through a thin tube. The laser also helps with tissue coagulation under the skin. 

This process reduces the risk of dimpling or sagging skin that is present with traditional liposuction. 

The VASERlipo® procedure is similar to Smartlipo® but uses ultrasound instead of laser energy to break up the fat cells before removal. It also helps with skin tightening. 

When applied to the face, these procedures allow your surgeon to manipulate and adjust facial tissues from under the skin. 

Certain treatments, such as laser resurfacing, address skin imperfections from the outside and cannot reach deeper layers that may also need adjustment.

What Are the Benefits of Smartlifting™?

Smartlifting™ has many benefits over traditional facelift surgery. Both Smartlipo® and VASERlipo® minimize trauma to the surrounding tissues, allowing for an easier recovery. 

Most patients are recovered in about a week with less swelling and bruising than would be experienced after surgery.

Smartlipo® and VASERlipo® allow for better accuracy when manipulating the facial tissues. They also allow for the procedure to be done using local anesthesia rather than general, which makes them a safer option. 

Which Option Is Best for Me?

At Denver Cosmetic Surgery, we offer three different Smartlifting™ options. The method that is best for you will be discussed during your consultation appointment. 

Non-surgical Facial Sculpting

Facial sculpting with Smartlipo® or VASERlipo® is the least invasive approach. The techniques are applied to targeted areas of the face. 

Only tiny incisions will be made, so this option is perfect for patients who are concerned about scarring and are younger. This option is also appropriate for patients who wish to address acne scars.

UltraMiniLift™

The UltraMiniLift™ is best for patients who have more extensive facial aging than those who receive non-surgical facial sculpting but less than those who require a full facelift. 

This procedure is similar to a mini facelift, but recovery is easier, and the results are better due to additional skin tightening.

Smartlifting™ Assisted Facelift

This option is best for patients who have a higher degree of aging that requires surgical correction. 

There is still less trauma to the skin and underlying tissues. The skin is also tightened from within, unlike a traditional facelift.

Denver’s Laser Assisted Facelifts

We are excited to announce that Denver Cosmetic Surgery is the only center in the West to be performing laser assisted facelifts – SmartLifting™. Dr. Khoury is one of only 5 surgeons in the country performing these procedures. He will also be one of the national and international instructors training new surgeons on this revolutionary new technique.

SmartLifting was discovered by Dr. Richard Gentile in Ohio a few years ago. He applied the laser from a Smart Liposuction machine to the undersurface of the facial skin through a small incision less than 1cm. Prior to that, the laser was being utilized in the neck with great success, but not on the face. Dr. Gentile, a friend and colleague of Dr. Khoury has since refined the technique to allow the laser to assist in face lift procedures. This is the first major technological advancement in facelifts for over 20 years. It allows for shorter operating time, less bruising and swelling, increased safety, less complications, quick recovery, and greater skin tightening.

SmartLifting is not to be confused with the trade named minilifts that exist today, such as Quicklift, Lifestyle Lift or the Lunch Time Lift. SmartLifting is a totally different technique that can be applied in several ways, but all have one common principle, utilizing the Smartlipo Laser (made by Cynosure) to the under surface of the skin. This is the opposite of what we are used to doing, applying the laser to the surface of the skin. The four major applications include:

Laser Facial Sculpting™: This is the most minimal invasive application. It essentially applies the laser under the skin of the face with targeted liposuction. This is performed through 2-3 small 1cm incisions.

SmartLook™: Is the inside/outside use of laser. The laser is used, as in laser facial sculpting, under the skin, then followed by surface laser resurfacing with a fractional carbon dioxide laser.

UltraMiniLift™: This is a mini face lift performed with the laser. The major advantage over a non laser assisted minilift is the greater degree of skin tightening long term.

Laser SmartLift™: This is a laser assisted facelift that offers a full facelift result, but within the least invasive setting.
